#NBA Game Tape: How to Lose a Game (Houston Rockets vs LA Lakers)
Game Tape time!
This past week, the Los Angeles Lakers inexplicably beat the vaunted and supposedly-feared Houston Rockets. The Rockets are heavy favorites to win it all with players like James Harden and Dwight Howard, yet the Lakers spotted a big lead and nearly blew it.
But they didn’t blow it because of a game-winning 3 by former Maryland Terrapin Steve Blake. Let’s break it down:
1. Inbounds play: Steve Blake, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash make it look like two of them are going to set a double screen for Nash. Blake forced Jeremy Lin to switch with Patrick Beverley, Lin to Nash and Dwight Howard to Gasol.
2. Play starts, then Nash and Gasol pin Lin and Beverley. Beverley inexplicably stands there and doesn’t fight through the double screen of Nash and Gasol
3. Steve Blake runs the double screen perfectly, spots up, and hits the game-winning three-pointer over a sprinting and fully-extended Dwight Howard. Ball game, Lakers 99, Rockets 98. Houston’s crowd falls…silent…
Yeah, he a Terp. Now that’s how you win games, Houston Rockets.
